Quick answer: Because a Bacon's tree is cut the day you take it home rather than shipped weeks earlier, you have more flexibility than a lot buy allows. For a tree that looks its best through New Year's, we recommend cutting anytime from late November through the first week of December.

This is one of the questions I hear most from first-time Choose-n-Cut families: "Aren't we cutting too early if we come the weekend after Thanksgiving?" Short answer, no, and here's why.

You're Starting With a Longer Clock Than a Lot Tree

Trees at big box lots are often cut in early to mid-November, sometimes shipped from out of state, and sitting on a lot for days or weeks before you ever bring one home. Every tree at Bacon's is cut fresh on the day you buy it. With basic care (a fresh cut at the base, daily water, kept away from heat), a Bacon's tree stays full and fragrant for four to six weeks. That means even a tree cut on opening weekend has plenty of life left in it come New Year's Eve.

Choose-n-Cut runs November 14 through December 13, 2026:

• Monday to Thursday: 10:00 am to 4:30 pm

• Friday to Sunday: 8:30 am to 4:30 pm

• Thanksgiving Day: 8:30 am to 12:00 noon

If You Want the Widest Selection, Come Early

The first two weekends of the season give you the best pick of every variety and size, before the most popular shapes and heights start thinning out. If your schedule is flexible, a weekday visit is quieter and gives you more room to walk the fields without the weekend crowds.

If You Want Maximum Freshness Through the Holidays

If you're the type who keeps the tree up until well into January, cutting in the first half of December rather than opening weekend will stretch that freshness window even further into the new year.
